The Ontario government is inviting everyone to get outdoors and reel in some fun during the 13th annual Ontario Family Fishing Weekend.
"Fishing is a great social activity for family and friends, and a popular outdoor activity across the province," said David Ramsay, Minister of Natural Resources. "The family fishing weekend provides a wonderful opportunity to participate in a local event, learn about fishing and conservation from knowledgeable anglers and have a good time."
This year, Canadian residents can fish licence-free in any public waters across Ontario from  July 7 to 9. Free instruction, food, basic tackle and live bait may be available at more than 84 public fishing events across the province. Some locations may also lend rods and reels at no charge.
During family fishing weekend, anglers must follow the
conservation licence limits set out in the 2005-2006
Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. Information on these
limits will be available at each participating site.
"People who fish are also people who care about and protect the
environment," said Ramsay. "We are committed to a healthy
natural environment, and appreciate the many anglers who work
each year with the ministry to protect and restore fish
habitat."
