A third concert has been organized to help raise funds for relief efforts in Haiti, which was hit by a powerful earthquake in January.

Local music promoter Vic Theriault, artistic director for Summerfest, has arranged for seven bands to perform at the Cardinal Motor Hotel, 1500 Regent St. South.

Headlining the event is Frankie Whyte and the Dead Idols who performed at Summerfest in 2009 and who also opened for the rock band KISS on three occasions.

“They graciously volunteered to perform, not only free of charge, but also to pay for their own transportation costs (from Toronto),” Theriault said.

On Jan. 13, an earthquake registering more than 7.0 on the Richter scale struck Haiti, just outside of the nation's capital of Port-au-Prince. The earthquake was also only about 10 km below the surface, meaning that the intensity of the quake was very strong.

Theriault said as soon as he heard about the earthquake devastating the Caribbean island nation, he put out the call via Facebook to musicians he was familiar with.

“In less than two hours, six local bands responded and volunteered to take part in this fund raising effort,” he said.

Frankie Whyte and the Dead Idols will be joined by local bands the Bluez Brotherz, Rock Burst, Naked Soul, Stacked Actors, Cold Crush, and Nuff Said.

“For a $10 donation at the door, those who wish to support the Red Cross efforts in Haiti will be thoroughly entertained by a great variety of music as presented by bands as Rock Burst ...and Stacked Actors (a Foo Fighters tribute band).”

The show begins at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Persons must be age 19 or over. For more information, phone Vic Theriault at Bigtown Entertainment at 560-0830.
