The Kverneland seven furrow rollover plow is the “top of the line” tractor and plow, according to Cederic Gagnon, a farm operator who has been employed with Valley Growers for the past five years.

The potato and wheat farm, located in Val Caron, purchased the new machine this past season. “The rollover technology has made plowing more efficient, eliminating dips, leaving your field perfectly flat, enabling you to plow 24 hours a day,” Gagnon explained. “With the conventional plow, you weren’t able to go up and down the field, you’d plow in squares.”

The Valley East resident said, “It’s the biggest tractor out there.”

He’s even spotted people pulling their vehicles over to the side of the road on Montee Rouleau to take photographs of the enormous machine.

The technology behind the plows enables the driver to change the width of the furrows, according the the young farmer. And the width of the furrows can be changed from 12 inches to 20 inches very quickly.

Gagnon was busy plowing the fields during the month of November, thanks to the unseasonably warm temperatures. He was able to plow 75 acres each day with the new tractor.

In the spring, the field will be disced and wheat or potatoes will be planted.

“There is still viable agriculture in Sudbury,” Gagnon said.
