Updated:Graphic-Con offers swag to offset city’s fee for online ticket sales

City charges $3.75 for each ticket sold through its online site

If you bought your tickets online to this Saturday’s geek celebration at Sudbury Arena — a.k.a Graphic-Con 2016 — you might have noticed an extra charge tacked onto your bill.

That’s because if you purchase event tickets through the city’s website, you’re charged a $3.75 per ticket “Total Convenience Fee.”

City spokesperson Shannon Dowling explained the fee is the cost the service provider charges the city and which they in turn pass onto ticket buyers.

“The convenience fee is $3.75/ticket. That's the arrangement we have with our ticket provider, Tickets.com. That's the fee they charge the end user (us, in this case),” Dowling said.

Aware of this fact, Graphic-Con wants to give you free stuff to offset the cost, Cliff Skelliter of Launchpad Creative, one of the organizers of Graphic-Con, said.

“We are offering a swag bag filled with cool stuff,” Skelliter said. “It is valued higher than $20.”

Graphic-Con hits Sudbury Arena on June 11. Doors open at 10 a.m.

***Clarification

Organizers of Graphic-Con have informed us that some of the information they provided earlier is incorrect. The swag bag is valued at $5, not $20. Also, swag bags are only handed out to those who have purchased the tickets before Monday, May 16.
