Comedian Casey Corbin hosts a comedy showcase in Sudbury March 25 that will also give aspiring local comedians a chance to hone their material.
The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the Northbury Hotel and Convention Centre on Brady Street.
Sudbury has a thriving local comedy scene with a combination of professional and amateur
comedians regularly hitting the stage, so it's important for us to help develop local comedians by
providing opportunities for them to share the stage with professionals, said the press release.
"Prior to the show, local comedians who want to take their comedy to the next level will be able to participate in a workshop with Casey and their fellow comedians,” said the show’s promoter, Derek Young.
Corbin is a regular on Sirius XM Canada Laughs and has also been on CBC’s Laugh Out Loud. The Ottawa Valley comedian also had an hour long feature on the Comedy Network: Casey Corbin Comedy Uncensored as well as having a 30 minute feature on CTV’s Comedy Now.
“What we've come up with is a unique style of show,” Corbin told Sudbury.com in an email.
“I will lead a seminar on comedy where we would focus on writing jokes, performing material, how to get stage time, creating a showcase set as well as hosting a comedy show as well. At the end of the seminar, three or four local acts will be chosen to fill out the show.
“One would host, then there might be three acts to participate on the show later that night. The show will be closed out with myself, a professional headlining comedian.
“So what Sudburians can look forward to is a great night of comedy that supports your local talent and comedy scene.”
