ICAN- Independence Centre and Network has been providing
support, resources and services to people with physical
disabilities in the Sudbury area since 1979.
Our goal is to provide people with physical disabilities the
opportunity to live and thrive independently, both at home and
within the community. ICAN was inspired by parents and
professionals within the local community to help develop
alternatives to the traditional institutionalization of adults
with physical disabilities.
From this, we have been working hard for almost three decades,
helping all members of our community feel included and know
that they are a valued asset and integral part of our great
city's fabric. With the help and support of a multi-skilled
trained team of professionals, we offer three key services
where clients can access supportive housing, outreach programs
and ICAN's Independence Training Centre. These services are
currently allowing members of our community with physical
disabilities the opportunity to develop and increase their
skills and abilities to live independently and function as
confident, contributing members of our society.
In the past year ICAN has supported more than 200 people with
physical disabilities to live independently at home, and to
receive attendant care at workplace and school. Our Youth
Services program provides a much needed after school and school
holiday service. It allows teens with disabilities the chance
to have fun and, learn life skills - all in a completely
accessible environment.
ICAN - Independence Centre and Network is an integral part of
the health care system. By teaching people with disabilities
how they can live and succeed on their own and at home, we are
keeping people who deserve to be part of the community, within
the community. Independent, confident and self-reliant.
ICAN is a member of the Community Support Services Network of
Sudbury. The Network is an organization comprised of 16
non-profit organizations whose goal is to provide quality
service and support for citizens living in and around the
Greater Sudbury Region.
