Sudbury Performance Group is bringing Doug Stone’s hilarious comedy, “Sealed for Freshness,” to the stage as the first production of their 2019-2020 season.
“'Sealed for Freshness' is the type of comedy that really empowers women,” says Mark Mannisto, president of Sudbury Performance Group.
“It unveils the true characters, trials, and struggles that faced housewives in the latter part of the 1960s. However, playwright Doug Stone has written these characters in such a way that brings humour and endearment to each character on the page.”
Set in the 1960s on a hilarious journey of self-discovery, “Sealed for Freshness” is the story of five Midwestern women who believe in being good wives, good mothers, and good neighbours.
Hostess Bonnie invites a group of neighbours over for a Tupperware party. The guest list: perky, rich Jean, Jean’s cranky and very pregnant sister Sinclair, ditzy-blonde Tracy Ann, and new neighbour Diane, who’s made quite a career selling Tupperware, but at the expense of her marriage.
The mix of personalities and the number of cocktails consumed lead to plenty of absurd hijinks, plus revelations of an equal number of secrets and insecurities.
The Sudbury Performance Group’s production of “Sealed for Freshness” runs Dec. 5-7 at the Kinsmen Hall in Lively. Tickets are $50 each, and include a catered dinner.
There is a show-only, matinée performance on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. Tickets for the matinée are $30.
