Mark Palumbo has been selected as the inaugural recipient of STC Honours and will be feted at a special command performance of STC’s upcoming Italian farce In Piazza San Domenico on May 13.

STC Honours is a new initiative with the mandate to acknowledge and celebrate some of the unsung heroes who have earned a lasting community legacy fostering and championing the arts in Greater Sudbury.

Palumbo’s professional career is that of a pharmacist, but his volunteerism has involved a wide array of work with the not-for-profit arts sector, most notably as the founding chair of Music and Film in Motion (MFM), an organization created in 2000 to strengthen Northern Ontario’s music industry and develop an organic film and television industry in the region.

Since then, Greater Sudbury has grown into a burgeoning film centre with over a dozen productions being fully or partially shot in the region each year resulting in more than $100 million in economic activity.

Palumbo has been actively involved in various capacities with a number of not-for-profitarts organizations, including serving a term on the STC Board of Governors.

“Mr. Palumbo has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to fostering and championing the arts in Greater Sudbury,” said Gerry Copeman, President of the STC Board of Governors.

“We’re proud to be able to celebrate his work with this new STC event and look forward to spotlighting him alongside his colleagues and friends.”

Palumbo will be feted in the company of family, friends, and supporters during a fun-filled ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. May 13 with a cocktail and light supper reception featuring live entertainment from jazz duo Brian Quebec and James Dorland, silent auction, and a retrospective celebrating his outstanding contribution to the arts in Greater Sudbury.

Following that, the audience will be treated to a performance of STC’s closing mainstage production of the 2014-2015 Season, In Piazza Domenico, a rollicking
comedy of errors, love triangles, and Italian farce.

Tickets for the first annual STC Honours are immediately available for $75 each or $750 for a block of 10. Phone the STC box office at 705-674-8381, ext. 21 to book or visit sudburytheatre.ca.
