Local cheese lovers were blue (cheese) last fall when downtown shop and restaurant Fromagerie Elgin closed its doors.
If you've got a 'munster' hunger for cheese, there's 'gouda' news on the horizon — the shop is 'brie'-opening this month under new ownership, but in the same location at 80 Elgin Street.
Kelsey Cutinello and Valerie Fremilin, who have given the restaurant and bar a slightly different name, La Fromagerie, promise exciting things.
La Fromagerie is hosting a Wine and Cheese Soiree starting at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 to give customers an exclusive first look. Be 'grateful,' it's a cheesy Valentine's Day event!
During the soiree, try out the restaurant’s new wine flights paired with selected specialty cheeses. The new dessert menu will be available to order from, as well as a select drink menu.
While La Fromagerie is still waiting on its liquor licence, it will open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday starting Feb. 20.
Once the restaurant is open to the public, La Fromagerie will have a re-imagined menu ready to show off featuring homemade sandwiches, soups and salads from locally sourced ingredients.
Cheese lovers can also look forward to building their own grilled cheese sandwiches, monthly fondue features and, everyone’s favourite, the cheese plates. With almost every menu item having a vegan or vegetarian substitute, Cutinello and Femilin hope everyone will be happy with the new, and old, offerings.
