Saturday, Sept. 10 is a family affair in Memorial Park. Jazz in the Park, a free admission event, will have live entertainment from noon until 4 p.m. and children’s activities.

Jazz Sudbury is inviting everyone to come explore the dynamic music that influences jazz. Audience members will have the opportunity to explore, engage, and interact with music throughout an afternoon of exciting free programming.

Highlighted by a community drum circle and instrument petting zoo, kids of all ages will be able to touch, play, and create while they take in a small sample of Jazz Sudbury’s 2016 roster.

Kicking off at noon with local percussion master Jeff Stewart’s Afro Madness Drum Troupe, the music will be playing all afternoon with Sudbury’s own Jazz Sarah Craig and Sunnyside Jazz, and Toronto’s Turbo Street Funk will keep the party rocking to finish off the afternoon.

“We’re really excited to be able to celebrate music in our downtown spaces and give back with free events,” said Jazz Sudbury festival manager Marc Gareau, in a press release.

“It’s an opportunity for everyone to come and see what we’re really all about, without having to worry about any costs. So bring the whole family!”

Jazz Sudbury is currently looking for additional vendors for its Jazz in the Park event. If you are interested, visit www.jazzsudbury.ca for more information.

Saturday, Sept. 10 also features the much-loved Jazz Walk event, musically parading audiences between downtown venues to get up close and personal with our headlining acts Rita Chiarelli and the Lost Fingers in our more intimate downtown venues, including the Red Fang Tavern, Oscar’s Grill, and Fromagerie Elgin.

The Jazz Sudbury Festival runs Sept. 7-11 this year.
