The new Art Gallery of Sudbury space will be located at 199 Larch St., and the current projection would see the doors open by the end of 2026.

Local mining company KGHM International Ltd. has made a gift of $2,500 to the Art Gallery of Sudbury in support of the gallery’s capital campaign.

“KGHM is proud to invest in this exciting project for the Art Gallery of Sudbury and downtown Greater Sudbury,” said KGHM general manager Steven Dunlop.

“At KGHM, our business is our people and a new educational, cultural and tourism destination will provide our current and future employees another reason to live, work, and stay in Sudbury.”

The Art Gallery of Sudbury, along with the Greater Sudbury Public Library, and the Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association, have partnered with the City of Greater Sudbury to create a Cultural Hub in downtown Sudbury at Tom Davies Square.

The new gallery space will be located at 199 Larch St., and the current projection would see the doors open by the end of 2026.

The art gallery’s current home, the Bell Mansion, is currently closed to the public due to structural issues with the space. Its programming has moved to a number of other local venues in the meantime.

“On behalf of the Art Gallery, I want to thank KGHM for their generous gift. We are honoured by the support that they have shown for the gallery and for arts and culture in our community,” says Paula Gouveia of the Art Gallery of Sudbury Board of Directors.

“With the support of partners like KGHM, we continue to move one step closer to realizing our dream of building a new Art Gallery where we will welcome our community and the world.”

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is a leading Northern Ontario public art gallery that engages and celebrates creative and diverse local, provincial, and national communities in innovative visual art, art-making and cultural experiences, said a press release.

It is a place for everyone to discover art, experience art and create art.
