All over the world, fans of Margaret Atwood celebrate the author's Nov. 18 birthday in a variety of ways.

A group of Laurentian University professors started celebrating the event four years ago. This year for the first time, Atwood will join in.

Laurentian will host the Margaret Atwood birthday feast on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. in the West Residence. Enjoy an alcohol-free gourmet dinner and hear Atwood read from her new book Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth.

Also appearing will be Sudbury artist Pandora Topp, who will read the monologue The Stove, written by Tomson Highway.

Tickets are $60, which includes a $30 tax receipt for a donation to the university's Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre, or $30 without the tax receipt.

Tickets are available on campus in the Parker Building (at the reception desk, at the English department on the seventh floor or at the office of academic native affairs on the second floor) or at the development office in the bowling alley. Tickets can also be purchased by credit card from the development office (call 675-4872) or in downtown Sudbury at Jan Browning Boutique on Durham Street.

Copies of Atwood's book will be available for purchase and signing.
