my!Sudbury contest winners announced

At a ceremony held Wednesday, eight students received awards in the my!Sudbury Colouring and Essay Contest.

At a ceremony held Wednesday, eight students received awards in the my!Sudbury Colouring and Essay Contest. In late 2007, students from Greater Sudbury elementary and secondary schools were invited to participate in the contest, using their artistic and literary skills to share their pride in the community.

"This year we are celebrating our community's 125th anniversary, and through this contest, our area youth have shown that they are very proud to live in Greater Sudbury," said Mayor John Rodriguez. "Our youth are the future of this community, and I am very pleased to see that they truly feel that my!Sudbury is their own."

The contest winners are as follows:

-Junior (Pre) Kindergarten to Grade 1- Colouring: first - Isabelle Paquette,Grade 1, École publique Franco-Nord; second - Brady Martin, Grade 1, St. Mary School;
-Grade 2 to Grade 4 - Essay: first - Marika Moskalyk, Grade 4, St. Theresa School; second - Brittany Schroeder Grade 4, St. Andrew School;
-Grade 5 to Grade 8 - Essay: first - Ivy-Lynn Saile, Grade 8, St. Francis School; second - Jessica Whittaker, Grade 6, St. Andrew School;
-Grade 9 to Grade 10 - Essay: first - Amanda Foulem, Grade 10, Marymount Academy; second - Joeleen Gauthier, Grade 10, Marymount Academy;

my!Sudbury is more then a slogan, a press release stated. It is an image campaign that gives all members of the community the knowledge and pride to act as ambassadors for Greater Sudbury. The image campaign assists in building a foundation for community cohesiveness in order to attract business investment, recruit and retain professionals, promote tourism and encourage internal investment.
