Northern Lights Festival Boréal continues its annual tradition of hosting the March Meltdown at the Townehouse Tavern on Saturday, March 18.

The Meltdown is an adjudicated battle-of-the-bands geared towards upcoming musicians hoping to play on the big stage.

The winners receive a paid gig at this year's Northern Lights festival, sharing the stage with Yukon Blonde and other acts from across the country.

The solo category begins at 3 p.m., and features Matt Akerman, Rachel Barber, Emmanuel Gasser, Esther Pennell, Maxwell José and Chanelle Albert.

The band category begins at 6 p.m, and features Kick Ptarmigan, Jamie Gabbani, Les Frérots Rochets, Stan’s Plan, Lazy Daisies and Pastec Palace.

Following the performances, the judges reveal the two winners. Then DJ Silvertongue serves up the funk and Bandit brings home the rock and roll classics.

The event is not only open for the public, but highly recommended if you'd like to check out some of Northern Ontario’s hot, emerging talent. Tickets cost $7 at the door.
