Northern Life is launching a new community video website called
Sudbury24 (
www.sudbury24.ca
). The goal of the new website is to provide a hub where
amateur video and professional new content are shared.
The site is the first of its kind in Sudbury with respect to
watching, posting and sharing local video.
"NorthernLife.ca is a great platform for our readers to share
their opinions and extends the community conversation. This
video site is a natural progression for us as Greater Sudbury's
community news source," said Abbas Homayed, publisher of
Northern Life.
To use the site, all a person has to do is complete a simple
registration form. After registering, he or she can upload
files, browse files from other members, create a profile page,
and start or join groups to connect with people who have
similar interests. Videos can be rated, emailed to friends or
saved as a "favourite."
"All people need to do is subscribe and start sending in their
stuff," Homayed said. "Already more than 500 video clips are
available."
Featured videos include items pertaining to local news and
events, humour, sports, travel, social events, music, community
groups, as well as the Sudbury Wolves. Content can be posted by
any registered user, but it also and includes videos from
Northern Life's news reporters, as well as Persona's Channel 10
News team.
"Sudbury24 is the community's premier local source for
sharing," he added.
"Video is such an interactive and personal media and it allows
us to see into one another's lives. People want to see one
another within the community, and keeping this site local is
the key."
Homayed noted that Sudbury24 provides the perfect venue for
this type of material and interaction. The site is very simple
to use, straightforward and is easily accessible.
The new video community will also offer ongoing contests, and
prizes will be up for grabs.
Sudbury24 is billed as a video-networking forum that allows
people to share the footage that matters to them most. Folks
who want to share their passions and pursuits will enjoy
recording and contributing videos about everything from school
dances and fundraisers to company banquets to sports.
"People are definitely going to see something different and
unique because we try and shoot for that," said Scott Haddow,
Northern Life's sports reporter who contributes weekly to
www.sudbury24.ca
.
"I think people are going to see our passion for community
athletes, coaches and teams in Sudbury. If you miss the big
game - whether it's a Wolves game or a high school game,
chances are you'll see it on our website. There's always
something new."
