Ottawa poet Susan McMaster will be the guest speaker Feb. 26 at a LUMINARIES Reading Series event.

The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Brenda Wallace Reading Room at Laurentian University’s J.N. Desmarais Library.

McMaster will be reading from recent and forthcoming work. Paper Affair: Poems Selected and New (Black Moss, April 2010) collects a quarter century of her work, including poems from Dark Galaxies, The Hummingbird Murders, Learning to Ride, Dangerous Graces, Uncommon Prayer, and Until the Light Bends.

Just launched in fall 2009, Crossing Arcs: Alzheimer's, My Mother, and Me is already in its second printing. Crossing Arcs pairs Susan's poems with direct quotes from her mother Betty Page on aging, illness, love of life -- and includes striking photos by Marty Gervais.

There will also be an OPEN MIC following Susan McMaster’s reading. Community writers will be given five minutes to strut their stuff. First come, first served.

There will be free admission and refreshments. Participants are asked to enter the building from outside entrance “E”. Parking is in Lot 4.

The LUminaries Reading Series is sponsored by the Laurentian University English Department and the English Arts Club.

For more information please call Emy Adams in the Laurentian English Department, 675-1151 ext. 4340.
