Since September, a group of 15 students from the Drama/Film Club at Pinecrest Public School have been writing movie scripts focused on character education, under the direction of teacher Scott Zoldy.

Topics include cyber-bullying, teasing, taunting, rumors, physical aggression and exclusion.

More than 80 students are involved in the production of the film entitled We're Not Gonna Take It. There are five chapters in the film, including Prom Night, The Cyberbully, Pretty in Pink, Volleyball Madness, and Picture Not So Perfect.

The Knights Inn on Lorne Street has donated the use of their Venetian dance hall for the prom dance scene being filmed on Dec. 19.

"The Pinecrest School Council and several parents have been extremely supportive of this production," said principal Jacques Mantha. "They will assist with supervising the film shoot and decorating the dance hall for this special scene."

In addition to the film, the Pinecrest Drama Club is working on a live production on character education set in the 1980s.

The script team has completed 11 stories on the following traits: trustworthiness, caring, empathy, courage, tolerance, ambition, responsibility, citizenship, fairness, loyalty, and respect. There is also an artistic group of students and parents working on creating wonderful backdrops to set the scene for the production.

The public will be invited to view the live production and the film from May 11 to 15, 2009.

A previous film on bullying, entitled Odd Boys Out, was created by the Pinecrest Public School Drama/Film Club three years ago. The film won first place in the short story category at the Shorties Film Festival hosted by Lively District Secondary School.
