VETAC (Greater Sudbury's regreening committee) announced that Queen Elizabeth Public School has won this year's Ugliest Schoolyard Contest.

Xstrata Nickel donated $75,000 to be shared between Queen Elizabeth Public School and runner-up winners Ecole Publique Jeanne Sauve, Algonquin Road Public School, Ecole Publique Pavillion de l'Avenir, and Chelmsford Valley District Composite School.

Other businesses have also donated money to the project. Schools must apply to VETAC by early May.

The schools will be regreened in the fall. VETAC will co-ordinate the projects while parents and student volunteer their time.
