The Salvation Army needs your help. Their annual fundraising
effort, the Red Kettle Campaign, is short $50,000.
"To date we have raised $27,000 from our Red Kettles located in
malls and liquor stores across Greater Sudbury, but our goal is
$80,000. At this point we should have raised $40,000 or more
this close to Christmas," said Geneva Oak, family services
co-ordinator for the Salvation Army.
Last year the Salvation Army also had to make a last-minute
plea for help.
"In desperation, we made a plea to citizens for more volunteers
and donations, and we ended up surpassing our goal of
$80,000-we raised an extra $7,000-that was a bonus," she
said.
"So this year we have decided not to take any chances and go to
the community now to make sure we raise the funds necessary to
continue our programs which help the needy," she said.
Red Kettles are located at the New Sudbury Mall, Southridge
Mall, Lasalle Food Basics and Walmart Mondays to Thursdays. In
addition, the following liquor stores offer the chance to
donate at Algonquin Rd., New Sudbury and Elm St. locations.
Volunteers to ring the bells for the Salvation Army campaign
are always welcome.
"We are short on volunteers. We can be flexible. You can even
help for short shifts of two to three hours. Just give us a
phone call at 566-8915 and we can work something out."
