The Saltcoats are as busy as ever as they gear up for the release of their EP (music sampler) on Jan. 17 at the Townehouse.

Having placed first in the 2008 Sudbury's Musical Playground competition, Will Gillespie and the Saltcoats are hard at work finishing their latest disc.

The prize awarded the Saltcoats a CD cover design package from local design firm 50 Carlton, a photography session at Pixatron and a music video to be directed by local filmmaker Lori Paradis.

The Saltcoats are Will Gillespie on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Josh Turnbull on drums and trumpet and Marc Donato on banjo and mandolin.

They are performing at the Townehouse with special surprise guest performers. Local father-son duo and local roots music dynasty Paul and Brian Dunn are opening. This promises to  be a fine night of entertainment with some of the best northern acoustic talent on one stage.

Later this month the Saltcoats will be continuing on the road to Toronto, London and Ottawa, among other places on what Will Gillespie has dubbed their "Swords and Dinosaurs Tour," named after the song of his found on the local children's song compilation.

The cover charge will be $5 at the door. Copies of the new EP will also be available at the gig. The funds raised from this event and the CD sales will be going towards a full-length album being planned for later in the year, for which the design package will be used.
