Santa Claus is coming to town Saturday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 pm, bigger and better than ever, said organizers for the annual Santa Claus parade at a press conference Thursday morning at Downtown Sudbury.

"It is thanks to our growing list of sponsors and the continued support of the community that this event, the biggest in the year for Greater Sudbury, keeps growing," said parade sponsor organizer Harvey Prudhomme.

Frank Flyn, mine manager for FNX Mining, presented a cheque for $5,000 to the parade committee.

"Our success, as a mining company, here in this area is due to the community. We are excited to participate in this event and to give back to the community. Of special gratification to us is making the local children exited and happy on the parade day," said Flyn.

The Santa Claus parade committee is also fostering partnerships between schools and businesses and groups that may have the financial resources for floats but lack in person power to build them.

"We are actively recruiting local schools to partner with those who need the help in making good quality floats. That way we boost our quality in what is presented to the onlookers," said Fennel.

Prior to the parade there will be a Santa Watch party at Market Square from 2-5:30 pm in conjunction with The Festival of Trees event.

A website will be ready by Oct. 10 to inform the community how they can get active in the parade by volunteering time or resources.
