The search is on for the best, or at least the most
entertaining and creative, science teachers in Canada, said a
news release.
Science North will play host to the Iron Science Ontario
Regional competitions on Nov. 3.
Winners of this event will go on to compete in the national
Iron Science competition to be held at the University of
Calgary on Nov. 22.
Jay Ingram, host of the popular Discovery Channel show Daily
Planet will also moderate the national event.
Iron Science is a Canada-wide challenge and is formatted
similar to the famous Iron Chef television series. Four-person
teams will endeavour to create spectacular and imaginative
feats of science and engineering, all before a live audience.
Of course, just like the television show, the teams will also
have to incorporate a "special ingredient" into their
projects-one that could, with some modification of course, be
used in an actual classroom.
There will be various regional competitions in this Canada-wide
challenge. Team entries for the regional event at Science North
in Sudbury will soon be available on-line at
http://ironscience.ca
and will be accepted beginning Sept. 1. The deadline for entry
is Monday, Sept. 24.
The national competition will include regional winners from
across the country, and will be streamed over the internet by
the Discovery Channel at
