Science North unwrapping the mystery of mummies

Anybody who has ever been fascinated by mummies can unravel the ancient mystery, on a grand scale, with the new IMAX film Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs, now playing at the Science North IMAX Theatre.

Anybody who has ever been fascinated by mummies can unravel the ancient mystery, on a grand scale, with the new IMAX film Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs, now playing at the Science North IMAX Theatre.

In the film, audiences journey to the royal tombs of Egypt and explore the history of ancient Egyptian society as told through the mummies of the past. The film follows explorers and scientists as they piece together the archaiological and genetic clues of Egyptian mummies, and provides a fascinating look into the mysterious world of the pharaohs.

clip Audiences can marvel at the sight of these human time capsules, shown in larger-than-life detail on the giant IMAX screen. Discover who they were, how they were embalmed, where they were hidden and how they were recovered thousands of years later.

The film also embarks on a genetic analysis of mummies that uncovers a scientific first - a discovery that could have huge implications for the study of modern human diseases.

Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs is 40 minutes in length, and is now playing at the Science North IMAX theatre daily at 1, 3, 7 and 9 pm, Thursday through Sunday. The film will also be screened in French Thursday through Sunday at 4 pm.
