Walking is a great way to keep your heart healthy. When people join the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Cheerios Heart & Stroke Walk for Heart this Sunday, Sept. 24, there's an added benefit. They'll be raising money to help find answers to heart disease and stroke.
People who can't participate Sunday are encouraged to make a
pledge.
Last year, the walk raised $3 million nationally. This year,
the national goal is $3.2 million.
Formerly known as the Cheerios Heart & Stroke Mother
Daughter Walk, the event is now a family event. Too many
families in Greater Sudbury know and understand the
heartbreak heart disease can cause.
This Sunday, Sept. 24 is World Heart Day.
Canadians in 73 communities across six provinces (British
Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec)
will be stepping out to raise funds in support of the Heart and
Stroke Foundation.
The Sudbury Walk will leave Science North at 2 pm. Participants
will follow scenic routes ranging from three to five
kilometres.
Check-in time is 1 pm and a warm-up starts at 1:45 pm.
Each participant will receive a goodie bag, and enjoy food and
entertainment.
Registrations will be accepted at the walk, or in advance by
mail, fax or in person. The Sudbury office's telephone number
is 673-2228.
The registration fee is $15. For walkers who raise $100 or more
in pledges, this fee is waived and they will receive
T-shirts.
Each team that raises $1,500 or more will be eligible to win a
$150 restaurant gift card.
Northern Life, EZRock105.3 and the Amazing Persona are sponsors
of the walk.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation, is a volunteer-based health
charity.
