With very little fanfare, a group of musicians in Greater Sudbury have started a concert series that has been well received by people who love classical music.

The Silver Birch Concerts are under the artistic direction of Alexandra Lee and Christian Robinson who are members of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra.

The 2006-2007 four-concert subscription season  at St. Peter's Church on York St. begins Oct. 14.

Concert one is a tribute to Franz Schubert.

The second concert (Saturday, Dec. 2 ) will feature the young Toronto-based Cecilia String Quartet, who are rapidly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting young quartets in the country. They will be presenting a program of quartet masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven, and Canada's own Kelly-Marie Murphy.

The third concert will be held in February and the final concert is scheduled for April.

Subscriptions to all four concerts are $60 and are available by phoning  the offices of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra at 673-1280. Single tickets are also available for each concert subject to availability and are $20 each.

They are available at Black Cat Too.
