From redneck surfing to the ugliest butt crack contest, the Redneck Games were in full swing Saturday afternoon, as the Nairn Centre community gathered together to show their support for two young children in medical need.

Eight-month-old Logan Vincent, who has been diagnosed with Leukemia and is being treated in Toronto, and two-year-old Cortnee Jondreau, who has epilepsy and is living in Alberta, were the sole focus of the Redneck Games, which took place this past weekend.

"Great way to entertain the people. Great way to earn some money,"said Mayor Brian Channon, adding coming up with the idea for the Redneck Games was just as simple as that.

Cortnee's grandfather Martin said he was blown away by the sense of community.

"What a sense of home," Martin said. "It just blew me right out of the water."

Martin's granddaughter had severe epilepsy at one year old with many seizures a day. About three months ago, part of her brain had to be removed. She is now back at home and has been seizure-free for two months.

Channon hoped to raise as much money as they could for the families Saturday afternoon in a day that wasn't lacking entertainment. The day was filled with a variety of events, including belly flops in the mud pit, redneck surfing, greased pole climbing and an ugliest butt crack contest.

Channon said that participants, as well as the organizers, were having so much fun and claims there's no doubt this will become an annual event, that will likely raise funds for a different charity every year.

"It's  a small town, and this is the best part of a small town, is the heart." Channon said. "This is what it's all about."
