Staff Tries: 'Magnificent' Migneault limbers up in aerial dance class

Sudbury's Spotlight Dance Company offers aerial arts classes made popular by Cirque du Soleil

The art of aerial dance has been popularized by famous performers like Montreal's Cirque du Soleil and R&B superstar Pink.

Now Sudburians have a chance to learn how to flip, swing and hang in silks thanks to Spotlight Dance Company

Sudbury.com's most graceful reporter, Jonathan Migneault, recently got a lesson on the silks by Spotlight's owner director, Jamie Blake.

Check out the video above to see our Magnificent Migneault attempt some mediocre (and pretty painful) acro poses.

Students who are taking the aerial arts class are preparing to compete in dance competitions where they'll perform a routine while hanging from apparatuses like a steel hoop and silk hammock.

The studio also offers traditional dance classes like tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop.

Spotlight Dance Company is located at 2354 Maley Drive in Garson.

For more information or to sign up for a class, visit SpotlightDanceCompany.ca or phone 705-560-DANCE.
