The Cambrian Concert Series presented world renowned guitarist Pavel Steidl at St. Andrew's Place on Larch Street March 18.

Steidl performed in a hall nearly filled to capacity with music students, music lovers and guitar aficionados.  His performance included arrangements by a variety of composers, including Villa-Lobos and Paganini.

Born in Rakovnik (Czech Republic), Steidl has developed a strong reputation as a remarkable artist around the world, playing in over 30 countries.  His repertoire includes classical works of other composers.

However, his final set Wednesday night featured his own composition, entitled Hommage a Jana Obrovska.

During the performance, Steidl’s physical execution on the guitar was flawless, his acoustics were intimate and soft and the audience was mesmerized by his creation.

Steidl’s hands caressed the neck and strings as if his guitar was the only thing that mattered at that moment, and from the looks of the audience it appeared as if they too were in line with the importance of the moment.

The Cambrian Concert Series was organized by The Business of Music class and instructor Tracy Sanmiya. The next concert in the Cambrian Concert Series is Guitars Alive featuring special guests Kevin Breit and Sisters Euclid. It takes place April 4 at the Sheridan Auditorium.
