Student filmmakers offered shot at festival screening

Young filmmakers in Greater Sudbury are being offered the chance to have their work played on the silver screen at this year's Cinéfest International Film Festival.

The sixth annual Shorties Student Film Festival is takes place on Apr. 22 at Lively District Secondary School. Elementary and secondary student filmmakers interested in participating must register by Mar. 31.

Entries must be 10 minutes or less and deemed appropriate for educational institutions.

Awards will be given out the night of the festival for best entries in the categories of Short Story/Drama or Comedy, Documentary, School Life, Animation and Elementary School Submissions.

A jury of representatives from Laurentian University and Music and Film in Motion will be on hand to judge the competition. A cash prize will also be up for grabs for the overall winner.

Winning films are automatically entered into the CTV Best in Shorts Competition and the Northern Connections Shorts Program, along with free admission to Cinéfest International Film Festival.
