Students create 47-foot mural at Sudbury airport

Artwork depicts physical and emotional connections experienced with flight
A group of students and alumni at Cambrian College's School of Creative Art and Design unveiled a large-scale mural at the Greater Sudbury Airport April 28.

The 47-foot art installation, which took 195 hours to complete, depicts the physical and emotional connections one makes with the experience of flight.

The philanthropic project was co-ordinated by Johanna Westby, a professor in Cambrian’s School of Creative Art and Design.

"The mural is about the experience of flight and the connections one makes in the airport and meeting new people, and the unfortunate moments of leaving family but also returning and having those new adventures," Westby said.

The mural is the fifth community installment completed by Cambrian students, faculty and alumni. Other projects have been at the Sudbury YMCA, Science North, Health Sciences North and Cambrian College.
