Students divert batteries from landfill

Sudbury Video News - Sudbury Secondary students recycle batteries Grade 9 Sudbury Secondary School student Joseph Frizell and Grade 12 student Sarah Hirschfeld, who are part of the Roots and Shoots club, are helping to collect batteries from students.

The classroom with the most batteries collected will win a pizza lunch. The Battery Drive, in its third year, is to educate people that batteries should not be thrown in the garbage, but recycled at the Hazardous Waste Depot.

The school is expected to collect several thousand batteries by April 24. For more information about battery disposal, go to www.greatersudbury.ca .
