About 285 Grade 5 and 6 Conseil scolaire publique du Grand Nord de l'Ontario (CSPGNO) students learned about francophone musicians at Folie-furieuse 2010, held at École secondaire Hanmer Feb. 6.
Students had to learn 10 songs, be able to identify the artists and their album, as well as the composers. During the event, school groups had to answer questions during an interactive quiz.
Each school had also prepared a lip-sync number with one of the songs learned. After the prize ceremony, students were surprised with a concert offered by UMANY, a Montreal-based group who was on their list of artists to be discovered.
Louise d’Amour, director of education with CSPGNO, said she was impressed by the activity.
“Congratulations to the cultural activities team who has, once again, organized an exciting activity that students relate to,” d'Amour said, in a press release.
“Hats off to the teachers who spent countless hours rehearsing the lip-sync numbers and listening to great francophone music in the classrooms. Our culture and heritage reach students through activities such as Folie-furieuse.”
