Art enthusiasts can visit 59 artists at 27 studios across the city as part of the Sudbury Arts Tour - 2008 - Tour Des Arts.
The 18th annual Sudbury arts tour will be held Sept. 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibits will be on view at Science North, downtown, Sudbury south, Sudbury west and Sudbury north - in homes, businesses, galleries, heritage sites, museums, and even a pavilion in a park.
This year's event will showcase: basket-weaving,
cabinet-making (hardwoods and traditional joinery methods),
carvings and low-relief sculpture (soapstone and wood),
collages, dancing, drawings (pastel, pen & ink, pencil and
coloured pencil), jewelry (silver with amber, gemstones and
Swarovski crystal), leather bags and purses, mosaics (glass and
rock garden art), mobiles, music (singing, guitar, keyboard and
drumming), paintings (acrylic, encaustic, gouache, mixed-media,
oil and watercolour), photographs (black and white, and
colour), pottery (fun and functional, decorative and
sculptural), rug-hooking, stained glass, tapestries, textiles
and wall hangings (from silk one-of-a-kind garments to Finnish
rag rugs).
"(This is) an amazing collection by unique, northern Ontario
artists," said Ann Suzuki, chair of the Sudbury Arts Tour -
2008.
Thanks to the generous support of more than 100 business and community partners, people can pick up one of the free tour guides in: The City of Greater Sudbury, Espanola, Whitefish Falls, Little Current, South Baymouth, Tobermory, St. Joseph's Island, Shequiandah, M'Chigeeng, Kagawong , Manitowaning, North Bay, Mattawa, Sturgeon Falls, French River, Killarney, Buckhorn and Toronto.
