According to a recent study by the Canadian Council for Learning, Sudbury, Ontario is the fourth "most caring" city in the country.
The ranking was based on the percentage of citizens who volunteered. 56.9 per cent of Sudbury citizens volunteer their time, according to the study.
Volunteers were defined as those who performed a service without pay on behalf of a charitable or other non-profit organization at least once during the 12-month period preceding the survey.
Guelph, Ontario came in first place, with 69.7 per cent of citizens saying they volunteer, followed by Kingston, Ontario, with 61.5 per cent and Fredericton, New Brunswick with 57.1 per cent.
The study is published in this month's Maclean's Magazine. The magazine also published stories based on the Canadian Council for Learning's rankings of the country's smartest cities (Ottawa, Ontario - Sudbury was ranked 29th) and most cultured cities (Calgary, Alberta - Sudbury was ranked 21st).
