Sudbury Living, published by Laurentian Media Magazine Group, is giving back to the community.
On Feb.3, the publisher, Patricia Mills, donated a cheque for $1,000 to the Sudbury Community Foundation, earmarked for their new Habitat for Humanity fund.
“Sudbury Living is a community focused lifestyle magazine,” Mills said.
“We believe we have to ensure Sudbury stays a strong community. Our contribution ensures there will be money for less fortunate groups.”
“It is a brilliant way to support a sustainable community,” Carmen Simmons said. She is executive director of the foundation, founded in 1996 and holding $2 million in assets.
Mills said it was the first time the magazine, which comes out quarterly, had donated to charity.
“We hope to do this on an annual basis. We have used some of the profits from our Sudbury Living Lifestyle and Home Show this past October.”
Habitat for Humanity was a natural fit for Sudbury Living, Mills said.
The non-profit organization works with lower income families to build housing appropriate for their needs.
Sudbury Living had celebrity contractor Mike Holmes as a keynote speaker at its fall show.
“Mike Holmes talked about the importance of safe, healthy houses for people,” Mills added.
