If you have lamented the loss of live music, the 2023 Sudbury Music Festival, formerly the Kiwanis Music Festival of Sudbury, will be held from March 25 to April 5.

After two years of COVID-19 precautions and restrictions limiting the festival to virtual activities only, participants will once again have the opportunity to gather in person and experience each other’s performances live, carrying on a 76-year tradition.

The majority of Sudbury Music Festival participants will perform and receive feedback face-to-face with their adjudicator. School choirs, bands and other large ensembles will have the option to submit video recordings for adjudication or perform in-person.

Registrations for the festival are open now though Jan. 31. Additional details, such as the venue, will be announced in the coming months.

"Festival co-ordinator, Louis Simão and the organizing board have been working for the past several months to ensure Sudbury and area music students have a chance to perform and compete as they have over the past 76 years," said Ralph McIntosh, festival board chair. "After two challenging yet successful online festivals, we are all looking forward to the return of live, in-person events."

As the return of a live festival will mean the renewed need for volunteers, festival organizers are inviting community members to volunteer. If you’re interested, contact festival co-ordinator Louis Simão at [email protected] or 705-532-8209.
