The students and staff at Sudbury Secondary School are celebrating Music Monday with a special performance called Music in the Air.

Music Monday has been an annual event since May 2005, where students and teachers across Canada have come together on the first Monday in May to engage in a simultaneous public celebration of the power of music.

The goals of Music Monday are to celebrate the importance of music in society, to demonstrate the vital role music education plays in the lives of Canadians and to encourage public support of quality music programs in public schools, a press release from the Rainbow District School Board stated.

The Sudbury Secondary concert will be held Monday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sheridan Auditorium. The evening will feature 10 groups and ensembles, including the Concert Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Male and Ladies' Choruses and the school's Rock Band.

A group called the Sensations will sing 60s songs by Aretha Franklin and The Supremes. The Junior Vocal Class will sing a medley of songs from the movie Sister Act.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $20 for a family. To reserve tickets phone the school at 674-7551.
