Theatre Cambrian announced the audition dates for three of its upcoming productions: Arsenic and Old Lace, The Best of Broadway Concert 2,and Last of the Red Hot Lovers.
"Since we announced our season this past spring, we have been getting a lot of requests for auditions," states Mark Mannisto, executive director of Theatre Cambrian. "We are pleased that we can announce the dates for our first three productions of the season. These productions are excellent opportunities for members of the community to get on stage and strut their stuff. We do not necessarily need experienced actors and vocalists. We would love to see some new blood alongside the veterans of Theatre Cambrian."
Auditions for Theatre Cambrian's production of Arsenic and Old Lace take place June 22, 24 & 25. "Private dates may be booked if these dates do not coincide with your schedule," advises Dale Pepin, director of the production.
Joseph Kesselring's hilarious comedy takes place in the Brooklyn home of Abby and Martha Brewster. These two spinsters live with their challenged nephew, Teddy. Another nephew, Mortimer, a New York theatre critic, discovers that his aunts have been providing a social service for elderly and lonely gentlemen in the neighbourhood. They've been feeding them elderberry wine laced with arsenic. Meanwhile, Teddy, who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt, is burying the bodies in the basement where he thinks he's digging the Panama Canal. Enter vile and evil nephew Jonathan, who has other plans for the little old ladies and their home.
Mannisto directs the first musical production of the 2008-2009 season. Because of the tremendous audience reception accorded The Best of Broadway concert this past season, Theatre Cambrian will stage The Best of Broadway 2. This musical concert will again draw on some of Theatre Cambrian's highest-calibre vocalists and some of musical theatre's best-loved treasures and modern classics to give audiences an evening of unforgettable music. Songs from The Phantom of the Opera, Spring Awakening, The Sound of Music, Miss Saigon, Wicked, Les Miserables, and more will all be showcased in this memorable limited engagement. Jamie Bourget directs Theatre Cambrian's production of Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Middle-aged Barney Cashman wants to have one sweeping extra-marital romantic fling in his tranquil, faithful marriage before life passes him by. On three different afternoons, he brings women to his mother's apartment while she's at the hospital doing work. Behind plentiful laughs is a tender portrayal of a decent fellow who just can't succeed in sinning. This is a comedy that will linger with you even when the laughs become an appreciative memory. Auditions take place July 13 and 16.
