The 100 mile diet is a growing trend that encourages people to shop within a 100 mile radius of their homes. Many Ontarians purchase beef and poultry raised by local farmers and are sticking to farmers markets when choosing fruits and vegetables to minimize their ecological footprints.
Ontario Craft Brewers have a wide selection of locally brewed beers. Styles range from light thirst quenching lagers to rich, nourishing and full bodied ales bringing a world class experience to local communities across the province.  Many of the ingredients, production and distribution is done right at the brewery, cutting emissions created through the import of ingredients, the transportation and distribution of beer. Plus the mash left over at the end of the brewing process is given back to local farmers and is used as livestock feed.

Guaranteed to satisfy your thirst and appeal to the green in you, the Ontario Craft Brewers have a variety of brands brewed with the ingredients that characterize their local area including the water - the most essential component of beer.

Selection, freshness and proximity are calling cards of these beer artisans. Follow the Ontario Craft Brewers beer route to find a local brew that satisfies your desire to stay green and drink beer that's brewed locally.

The route extends from the Capitol region near Ottawa where Beau's All Natural Brewing and Heritage Brewing feature a variety of award winning brands. Stops along the Golden Horseshoe include Barley Days Brewery in Prince Edward County, Trafalgar Brewing Company in Oakville right through to TAPS Brewing Co. in Niagara Falls - taste and explore what's being brewed in your own backyard. It's a nice way to spend a day and explore what Ontario and it's beer makers have to offer.

If you haven't already, start participating in the 100 mile diet for all your beer needs by finding your local Ontario craft brewery on the route at www.ontariocraftbrewers.ca.

These great beers are also available at your local Beer Store or LCBO.
