Because Toronto comedian Darren Frost's in-laws live in Garson, he spends a lot of Christmases in the Nickel City.

He's discovered how to turn these festive visits into a way to benefit his career and give people here some good laughs at the same time.

Frost is putting on a few shows in town before he opens any presents or chows down on turkey. The Darren Frost Xmas Comedy Tour visits Ferrigan's Pub in Garson Dec. 22 and Little Montreal on Elgin Street in Downtown Sudbury Dec. 23.

Other comedians are also on the bill, including Kevin Schafer and Cheyanne Monk.

“For me, it's always about you've got to just keep working,” said Frost, a veteran of the stand-up business who's been doing shows across Canada for a quarter-century.

“In December, there's not a lot of shows going on because people are so Christmas focused. I don't want to go two full months before doing a show. I want to do shows.

“I've always had a lot of success in Sudbury. It's a great comedy town.”

Besides his comedy work, Frost also acts in movies and on television, lends his voice to many cartoons and also does publicity for other performers.

“Comedy is what I love,” he said. “Sometimes comedy isn't the most financially-rewarding thing, so I do other things to pay my habit of wanting to do stand-up comedy.”

He describes his comedic style as “in your face, pretty aggressive and angry.” Frost draws from his own life and family, as well as current events, in writing stand-up material.

“I've got a good 10 minutes on Donald Trump,” he said. “You'd think people would be tired of it, but they're not tired of it if it's funny.”

Both shows run at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The shows are only open to those over the age of 18.
