The Ontario government is helping promote Georgian Bay as a tourism destination.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $50,000 to the Rainbow Country Travel Association.  The association will work with 17 municipalities, attractions and agencies from Parry Sound to Manitoulin Island, to market Georgian Bay as a premiere tourism destination.

"Georgian Bay holds as much majesty and mystique as the Grand Canyon or any other natural wonder in the world and it's time for more people to know this," said Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Brown. "We see enormous potential for the Georgian Bay tourism corridor to grow and prosper."

"Northern marketing organizations, including Rainbow Country, have been working diligently for many years to develop Georgian Bay as a signature touring and outdoors destination," said Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle, who also chairs the NOHFC.  "The McGuinty government is delighted to assist in their efforts, which could bring opportunities for new business start-up, for communities to attract more visitors, and for tourism to contribute even more to the economic prosperity of the area."
