Cosmic Dave's Vinyl Emporium is specializing in more than just
records these days.
On April 4 at 8 p.m., Dave's door will be opened after-hours
for a special performance from the Violet Archers.
"I get a good vibe from the shop," says Tim Vesely, founder and
lead vocalist of The Violet Archers. "I've seen some really
good in-store performances."
Vesely has been active in touring for the past three decades,
and is certainly no stranger to Sudbury audiences. His former
band, The Rheostatics, headlined the Northern Lights Festival
Boréal in 1998 and have played the Towne House Tavern on
several occasions.
Vesely admits that while he enjoyed the dynamics of The
Rheostatics, he has come to enjoy a softer style of performing.
"Rocking out in a bar is a lot of fun," says Vesely. "But when
you want to quiet down, you can still hear people talking in
the back of the bar and disrupting everything.
"I like intimate environments better. I like to get quiet."
Cosmic Dave's owner Mark Browning felt Violet Archers would be
ideal for the shop's intimate performance space because of the
band's sound and reputation. "I chased down the band because I
thought it would be good in here," says Browning. "I try to
book bands who I can spread the word about, just so long as
they have vinyl."
Vesely says there will be an abundance of copies of his band's
latest album, Sunshine at Night, on hand at the event. "We have
a lot of our product that we need to unload."
Violet Archers' own Ida Nilson will open the show with her band
Great Aunt Ida.
Only 50 seats have been made publicly available. Tickets are
$12 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, phone
