In writing her 2021 dance pop single, “I Believe,” Belee Kaur said she wanted to create a piece of music that motivates people, especially women.

“That's why that song is very close to me,” she said.

“Because in the words I do say that, you know, people want you to live the way they want. But then if you believe in yourself, you can actually achieve the goal you want to. So that's the theme of the song, to believe in yourself.”

Although she recently relocated to Toronto, Belee Kaur is a former Sudburian.

After living in California for years, playing tennis in the international scene, Kaur lived in Greater Sudbury for a couple of years, working at the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre.

She said her parents live in Brampton, but she has a family connection to Greater Sudbury, as an uncle lives here.

While Kaur still plays tennis for fitness, she has transitioned to a music career after being signed by producer/manager Rathmuzik. Kaur said she’s been creating music for about a decade, although is now putting more focus on her music.

She said she is pleased with how “I Believe” has been received, hitting No. 35 in the UK top official 100 iTunes charts, and acquiring more than 1.5 million views in under a month in YouTube.

Kaur is already working on a few collaborations, including with American rapper Soulja Boy. They’ve come out with a song called “Flexin.”

Kaur is also planning to put out an EP.
“So we are working on an album,” she said. “I think it should be out by the end of this year. During COVID, I was writing a lot of songs, and now it's time to release them.”
