Youths to open business in Elliot Lake

The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is assisting two young entrepreneurs with financing, mentoring and resources, stated a news release.

The organization, in partnership with the East Algoma Community Futures Development Corporation, is assisting the youth with a new business in Elliot Lake, which will offer reliable and affordable transportation services to the residents of the town and surrounding areas.

"Running your own business can be challenging, especially for young entrepreneurs who are just starting up," said Tanya Bédard, business manager with the CYBF, in the news release. "CYBF enables young entrepreneurs to make their dreams happen."

The new business, Shuttle Pro, will fill the gap in transportation services from Elliot Lake to larger northern communities, such as Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. Services include pick-up and drop-off, as well as non-emergency medical patient transfers.

"We've always wanted to open our own business," said Gail Decaire and Marc Perreault, owners of Shuttle Pro. "Now with the help of Nickel Basin Federal Development Corporation, East Algoma Community Futures Development Corporation and CYBF, we have made this dream come true."

The two entrepreneurs have been matched with a mentor to assist them during start-up.

The CYBF is a national charity that provides support for youth, aged 18 to 34, who have a great business idea, but are unable to access funds through traditional resources. CYBF provides lending based on character, not collateral, stated the news release. The organization's mandate is to keep entrepreneurship alive to create economic prosperity in communities across Canada. Since its founding in 1996, CYFB has invested in more than 2,300 young people, generating approximately $266.9 million is sales revenue, $62.9 in tax revenue and $28.7 million in export revenue. Th organization has had a hand in creating 13,300 new Canadian jobs. CYBF is an accredited Youth Business International program and worldwide network of youth business initiatives.
