Ten-year-old Derek Deluisa donated $205 in birthday money to the Northern Cancer Foundation Oct. 28.

Deluisa was inspired to make the donation because of relatives and caregivers affected by the disease. One of his friends, Ryder Johnson, also made a donation earlier this year in memory of his “Papa.”

“They have such big hearts,” said Allison Deluisa, Derek’s mother.

“What a great visit to receive at the end of a fantastic week,” Tannys Laughren, executive director of the Northern Cancer Foundation, said in a press release.

“It is nice to see such a spirit of community giving in such a young age.”

The Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF) raises funds for the Regional Cancer Program in Sudbury.

Every dollar donated stays in the northeast and helps fund patient care, new equipment and cancer research.
