More than $163,000 was raised at the 2016 RBC Hike for Hospice May 1, exceeding the goal of $150,000.

Since 2008, RBC has helped raised over $1 million for Maison Vale Hospice with their sponsorship and support of the RBC Hike for Hospice.

This year, the hike attracted close to 1,000 participants, who collected pledges for the hospice, walked the Jim Gordon Boardwalk, enjoyed the nice weather and a barbecue, while raising awareness for hospice palliative care in Greater Sudbury.

“We have a million reasons to thank RBC for their commitment to Maison Vale Hospice and hospice palliative care in Greater Sudbury,” said Yolanda Thibeault, executive director of the Sudbury Hospice Foundation, in a press release.

“Their ongoing support ensures that we can continue to provide quality end-of-life care in our community.”

The $163,000 raised this year includes the fundraising efforts of Churchill Public School. The school community raised $18,862 at its own Churchill RBC Hike for Hospice on April 29, exceeding their original goal of $13,003.

The students walked from Churchill Public School on Fielding Street to the RBC branch on Lasalle Boulevard.

Donations for the RBC Hike for Hospice can still be made on Maison Vale Hospice website. All funds raised stay in Sudbury and go towards the operational costs of Maison Vale Hospice.
