240 workers lose jobs as brake plant will close

Affinia Group has announced it will be closing its Sudbury plant as of June 22, putting 240 people out of work. The plant is located off of Lasalle Blvd., and manufactures brake parts. Head office is based out of Ann Arbour, Michigan.

“To successfully compete in today's global market-drive economy, Affinia is focused on lowering costs and becoming a world class global manufacturer and distributer of on and off highway replacement products and services,” said Terry McCormack, president and CEO of Affinia Group, in a release.

“This closure is consistent with our previously announced comprehensive restructuring plan and will help us realign our global manufacturing footprint.”

The release said the company will provide appropriate severance packages and career assistance where possible.
