A fire at a duplex on Somerset Street early this morning caused $70,000 in damages.
Greater Sudbury Fire Services were called to the blaze at 5:13 a.m. Jan. 12. The fire, which affected one of two residential units in the building, caused moderate smoke and fire damage. Four people were displaced.
Twelve firefighters from two fire stations responded to the fire.
The department advised people to avoid overloading circuits with "octopus outlets." If additional outlets are needed, the fire service said to have them installed by a licensed electrician. Homeowners and renters should also check cords for damage such as fraying or nicks. Extension cords should only be used as a temporary connection.
