A few photos from yesterday's amazing solar eclipse

April 2024 eclipse promises to be more dramatic for Canadians

A few Sudbury.com readers managed to snap photos of Monday's solar eclipse, which they graciously shared with us.

The internet kind of freaked out on the solar eclipse yesterday, with residual awe at the majesty of celestial bodies in motion hanging around into today.

Thousands of people turned out to Science North to witness the event. So many people showed up, the science centre didn't have enough solar eclipse glasses for everybody and the parking lot quickly filled up, forcing people to park in the York Street lot off Paris Street.

You can check out the excitement of the eclipse for yourself in the video below by Sudbury.com videographer Heather Green-Oliver.

Because of where in the heavens the eclipse occurred, Canada only saw a partial eclipse, with about 70 per cent of the sun covered by the moon. However, the next eclipse, which occurs in April, 2024, will happen right over Canada, meaning we'll see the moon completely cover the sun, leaving only the fiery corona visible around the edges.
