A St-Jean concert for 1,200 Nouvelon students in Bell Park

Grade 4 to 8 students danced and cheered as Francophone musician LeFloFranco led a celebration of French-Canadian culture

While St-Jean Baptiste Day, which falls on June 24, is ostensibly a religious observation, in Canada, the day has become a celebration of French-Canadian culture as well.

And that celebration is exactly what took place on June 1 when 1,200 Grade 4 to 8 Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord students converged on the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park for a St-Jean event.

The event drew students from 20 Greater Sudbury schools, as well as from Espanola, for the  concert, which featured a performance by Francophone artist LeFLOFRANCO with DJ Skorpyon

Opening the show, however, were student performers Rodney Miller from Nouvelon and Véronique Champoux from Grand Nord, accompanied by DJ Alex Reed, a graduate of Collège Notre-Dame in Sudbury.

The concert was presented jointly by the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord as part of the 25th anniversary of St-Jean Sudbury.

The concert marked the start of several St-Jean Baptiste events that will be held over the month of June.
